How We Review Cat Insurance

We don't pull live quotes. We don't accept payment to rank carriers. We earn affiliate commission if you buy through some links — that does not affect our rankings or scoring.

Scoring criteria

Each provider is scored 0–10 on five equally-weighted criteria:

  1. Deductible structure (25%): Annual vs per-condition. Does the structure favour chronic-condition cats or one-time incident cats? Is it transparent?
  2. Reimbursement terms (20%): Percentage options available, annual limits, unlimited options. Real cost after deductible and co-pay.
  3. Coverage breadth (20%): Hereditary conditions, bilateral conditions, cancer, dental, wellness. What is and isn't covered — with specifics, not marketing language.
  4. Claims reliability (20%): Documented claim-processing speed, pre-existing dispute frequency, consumer review patterns across Trustpilot and ConsumerAffairs (minimum 50 reviews reviewed per carrier).
  5. Transparency (15%): Policy language clarity, disclosure placement, ease of finding exclusions. We penalise carriers that bury exclusions or use ambiguous pre-existing language.

Affiliate disclosure

Some links on this site are affiliate links. If you purchase through an affiliate link, we may earn a commission at no additional cost to you. This commission does not influence our scoring, ranking, or editorial content. Carriers are scored on the criteria above regardless of whether we have an affiliate relationship with them.

YMYL and accuracy commitment

Cat insurance is a YMYL (Your Money or Your Life) content category. We commit to:

  • Citing primary sources for all factual claims
  • Updating all reviews at minimum annually
  • Correcting errors within 48 hours of identification
  • Never using "best," "always," or "guaranteed" language about coverage without sourcing
  • Carrying the YMYL disclaimer on every commercial page

What we don't do

  • We do not pull live quotes — all pricing is based on published 2026 sample data
  • We do not make personalised insurance recommendations — this site is for comparison and research only
  • We are not licensed insurance brokers or producers in any jurisdiction
